Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 is the quintessential game that I'm looking for here at Hitting Pause. It feels like the perfect game to kick off coverage here at Hitting Pause. We already know that Switch games are great for the busy gamer, and Mario Kart World is the must have game from the Switch 2 launch lineup.

The Mario Kart formula is here and if you weren't a fan of the games before, I don't think there is much here to change your mind. At it's core its still racing karts and throwing shells. However, if that's your jam, you'll love the latest iteration.
The game should have been called Mario Kart Knockout because the knockout mode is the best new addition to the series. The open world is fine and fun enough. While a neat addition for exploration, its lack of a local multiplayer option felt like a missed opportunity. The Knockout mode is leaps and bounds more exciting as each checkpoint drops the trailing four racers until only four remain for the finish. This resulted in many tense moments as I'd get repeatedly shelled right before a checkpoint and face inevitable defeat long before the end of the race. Somehow I still had fun.
What makes it great for busy gamers? You can play it in short bursts. A knockout race or grand prix is a quick 10-15 minute session. The learning curve doesn't require you to know every detail of the game to have fun. For the parents out there its kid friendly and overall its just plain fun. Of course its on the Switch so should life's responsibilities come calling, it's easy to just put the system into sleep mode and pick up right where you left off.
